Lemon – Oil on wood – 50 x 40 cm. – 2016 (Detail)

Here's a time honoured subject, though when I painted it I didn't know about the long history of Dutch still-life paintings where the lemon peel hangs of the support. Works by Willem Claesz Heda and Willem Kalf for instance. It was a joy to paint this piece though it took me quite a while to finish. The grey background has a blueish hue and the support a green one and the gradations took a long time for they are rather subtle.
