Here's a very small detail of a new piece, I painted the shirt mainly from life and finished it from memory. The scene as depicted here has never existed. I particularly wanted to paint something lit from behind since that rarely happens in painting. Additionally I really wanted to combine abstract and figurative aspects into one painting, that's why the top half is mainly figurative and the wall on the bottom half has a more abstract approach. That's also the reason why I didn't feel the need to paint a sky or any other backdrop through the window. I really wanted to keep some sense of calm in that area.
This piece is somewhat of a self-portrait, It fits into a longer running series: self-portraits without me in it. The shirt has been painted at the scale where it would actually fit me.
